The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has announced the complete lifting of all sanctions previously imposed on the Republic of Guinea. Background: Coup and Regional Condemnation
The sanctions against Guinea stemmed from the military coup d'état on September 5, 2021. A special forces unit led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya overthrew President Alpha Condé, who had controversially secured a third term. The coup installed the National Committee of Reconciliation and Development (CNRD), ending Condé's decade-long rule.
